How to verify the installation of Meters Installed on Grid side or Generator Output
As mentioned here (Article: How TrackSo ensures seamless zero export). The bidirectional meter plays a significant role in working of the zero-export algorithm in Power Control device. Thus, It is highly required that the bidirectional meters are correctly placed and giving the correct output. This article emphasizes on how you can verify the installation of your Grid side or DG side meter at the site.
Prerequisites to the activity:
- Installer understand that Power Control (Zero Export/DG Sync) sync system will not be able to function without correct installation of meter.
- Installer should be able to switch ON/ OFF the solar inverter.
Verifying Meter Installed on Grid side for measuring Import/Export Power
Step-1 Switch off all the Inverters available at the Site
Step-2 Check the Load Power being displayed on the meter screen (Sample attached)
Step-3 Observe the load power on all 3-phases being displayed in the meter.
Step-4 Verify the direction of the power flowing in. If any load is having wrong direction then correct the meter installation (ex- CT’s might be installed incorrectly)
Step-5 Increase any known load on all 3 phases and observe if the known consumption increases on all the phases as per the known output. If not then correct the meter installation (ex- CT ratio might be incorrect)
Verifying Meter Installed on DG Output for measuring Output Power
DG Output Meter
If you are testing the meter installed on DG Output then insure the power direction of all the phases is same and +Ve when DG is functioning.
Example of a meter installation in which meter was showing -ve power flow when DG is functioning.
FAQ’s
Meter is not showing correct values of instantaneous parameters?
The following things should be verified:-
- Verify that the correct CT/VT commissioning values are selected in set up mode of the meter.
- Verify that the connection is done as directed on the decal pasted on the top of the meter.
Active Power (W) reading is negative ?
CT may be reversed.Check and correct the CT connections.
Load onlyr eadings do not increase when a known load is added to the system.
The consumption CTs do not include all loads.
Make sure that all home load is routed through the consumption CTs.
