Basic rules to install TrackSo Remote Monitoring System on a Solar PV Plant

Rule 1: Configuring the Inverter Settings

The very first rule is to configure the inverter settings to have a successful communication between the inverter and the TrackSo data logger. TrackSo provides the data logger with the standard settings so that the installer has to do minimum settings on the inverter. TrackSo data logger basic MODBUS settings are as follows:

  1. Inverter ID: 1 for the first inverter that is directly connected to the TrackSo data logger. All the subsequent inverter will be 2, 3, 4 and so on.
  2. Baud Rate: 9600

Most of the inverters come with a standard baud rate of 9600. But please check the same in your inverter during configuration.

Rule 2: Connections between TrackSo data logger and the first inverter

In MODBUS RS485 connections, please connect

  1. the Data+ [3rd pin] of the data logger to the Data+ [RS485+] pin of the inverter MODBUS communication port.
  2. the Data- [4rd pin] of the data logger to the Data- [RS485-] pin of the inverter MODBUS communication port.

Rule 3: Using the DC adaptor to power up the TrackSo data logger

TrackSo provides a 240V AC – 12V DC adaptor to power up the TrackSo data logger. Please use the same adaptor and make sure the input supply where you’re plugging in the adaptor is between 220V AC to – 260V AC. Also, please make sure that this supply is available 24×7 so that the TrackSo data logger is working 24×7 without issues.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER:

  1. Please ensure that the input AC supply for the power adaptor is in the range of 220V – 260V. Beyond this range, the power adaptors may malfunction. You can check the voltage of the input using multimeter before plugging the power adaptor.
  2. Please avoid using the inverter AC output to provide input supply to power adaptor. Inverter output AC supply fluctuates a lot during the day based on the DC power being produced at the input side. Hence, too many fluctuations may cause the power adaptor to malfunction.
  3. If there is a regular voltage hikes at your solar PV site, we would recommend using an SMPS supply  with SPD instead of a standard power adaptor. Please inform TrackSo team about the power/voltage hikes at your site during purchase and we can provide you with and SMPS supply with SPD at an additional cost.

Rule 4: Ideal location for TrackSo data logger installation

Following points are recommended:

  1. Ensure that there is a good network signal availability at the location where TrackSo data logger is installed. This will enable TrackSo to collect the data and sync it with your TrackSo account as fast as possible and without and anomaly.
  2. The data logger comes with an IP65 enclosure. We still recommend that the TrackSo data logger should be installed at a location where direct exposure to sunlight and rain can be avoided.

The will ensure a long life for the system and less maintenance.
